Recipe: Divine Bliss Balls!

date-cacao-coconut-bliss-balls.jpg

These excellent Bliss Balls take 10 minutes require NO cooking and are not only delicious but offer some goods for the belly as well! Most people don’t tend to use macadamias in Australia because of cost and oil/fat content, I love a great cashew or walnut if you prefer a more savoury flavour, or if you just have almonds in the cupboard - no worries :) Diversity is helpful for the gut but it’s not a crisis for a recipe like this. xx

RECIPE NOTES:

Makes approx. 16 Bliss Balls

  • you will need a food processor for this recipe

  • nuts can be subbed in and out! Not hot for hazelnuts- use cashews! (you get the gist) ;)

  • You can roll your balls in just about anything I’ve suggested coconut because it’s a common pantry ingredient or you could use cocoa, if you like creative flavours, dried raspberry dust is wonderful or even crushed nuts!

Ingredients

  • 10 medjool dates, pitted (I use dried- if you do too, soak for 20minutes beforehand)

  • 25g unsweetened cacao powder or cocoa powder

  • 25g macadamia nuts

  • 25g chopped hazelnuts

  • 60g almonds

  • 1 tbsp coconut oil

  • 2 tbsp water or mylk of choice (I use oat)

  • 1 tsp quality vanilla extract

  • 1 small pinch of sea salt

  • 1/4 cup shredded coconut for rolling (cocoa or even crushed nuts are also options to roll your bliss balls in)

    Optional:

  • 1 teaspoon of ashwagandha root powder

  • 1 teaspoon of maca powder

  • honey or rice-malt syrup (it’s a gentle low GI sweetener) to taste (max 1 teaspoon)

Method

  • Place your nuts in your food processor and blitz, I like my bliss balls to be a bit less gooey-truffle-esque in texture so I keep my nuts a bit crunchy still but not huge- use your judgement here. You can blitz to completely smooth, in which case add your oil and mylk/water here to create a paste-like result.

  • Add your dates and the remaining ingredients: vanilla, cacao powder and a pinch of salt. Blend again until everything is combined.

  • you should find your mixture begins to form a large ball, scrape down the sides to ensure everything is blended. If the mixture is dry add a bit more mylk or water, a bit too wet? additions like shredded coconut can be really helpful here!

  • Use a lightly oiled tablespoon to scoop out the mixture, roll into balls using your hands. Transfer to the prepared baking tray, then dip the bliss balls in cocoa, coconut (like mine above) or even crushed nuts!

  • Ready to eat straight away, or leave for 30 mins for a firmer texture.
